A free 3D planner that turns a camp's shade structure into a parts list, a wind rating and a build manual.

CampShade is a free web app for planning DIY shade structures built from EMT conduit and Maker Pipe connectors. You lay out the frame on a 10-foot grid in 3D, pick the site and the ground, and it counts every pole, connector, anchor, tarp and bungee, with where to buy each one. It rates the build against historical wind for that location, shows the shade hour by hour, and prints a build manual and packing checklist for the crew.
Most camps plan shade from memory and a hardware-store run. Too few anchors and the frame comes down in the first dust storm. Miscount poles and connectors and it's a second trip into town, or a pile of extras. And nobody knows where the shade will fall until the tarps are up.
I built it as a single-page React and Three.js app, partly to learn 3D on the web. The grid drives everything: the model, the parts math, the anchoring for the ground type, and a sun simulation that reports how much of camp is in shade. Supabase handles accounts, saved builds and the community gallery.
